Design No. 1007

Field

Design 1007 represents one entry in Alfred Mylne's extensive catalogue of yacht designs. Originally designated Field, this design survives in the archive as a single drawing. Limited information remains in the historical record regarding the vessel's specifications, construction details, or subsequent history. The design forms part of Mylne's broader body of work as a naval architect active in the early twentieth century.

Notes

Little is known about the origins of this novel sail plan, but it clearly demonstrates that imaginative thinking about rul interpretation is nothing new. Probably from an article for the Field magazine "Sail & Rigging Plan of Mr Mylne's FIELD 6six metre showing the equivalent two fold sail considered to be permissible under Y.R.A Rules"

Historical Context

Alfred Mylne (1881–1955) worked as a naval architect during a period of significant development in small craft design. His practice encompassed a wide range of vessel types, from racing yachts to cruising boats and working craft. The design numbering system employed in his archive reflects a systematic approach to recording his output. Design 1007 falls within the middle range of his numbered designs, suggesting it was created during the established period of his practice. However, without dated drawings or client records, precise chronological placement remains uncertain. Many designs from this era were never constructed, or were built in single examples with limited contemporary documentation.
