Historical Context

Alfred Mylne (1881–1969) was a Scottish yacht designer of considerable reputation, practising from offices in Glasgow. His designs encompassed a broad range of sailing vessels, from racing yachts to cruising auxiliaries. The yawl configuration—a two-masted fore-and-aft rigged vessel with the mizzen mast stepped forward of the rudder head—remained a popular choice for ocean-going cruising vessels throughout the twentieth century. Design 1116, though incompletely documented in surviving records, falls within Mylne's extensive catalogue of work.
