Historical Context
Alfred Mylne (1881–1963) was a distinguished Scottish yacht designer whose practice spanned the early twentieth century through to the 1950s. His designs ranged from small cruising yachts to substantial ocean-going vessels, and encompassed both sailing and motor craft. The archive preserves drawings, correspondence, and records from this extensive practice. However, the survival of documentation is uneven; many designs are well recorded whilst others persist only as entries in client ledgers or builders' records.
