Historical Context
Alfred Mylne (1870–1960) was a distinguished Scottish yacht designer whose career spanned more than six decades. His practice produced designs across numerous yacht types and sizes, from small cruising vessels to larger racing yachts. Design 170 falls within the early years of the twentieth century, a period when yacht design was evolving rapidly in response to changing racing rules and owner preferences. The year 1909, when Lady Trix was built, places this design in the Edwardian era of yacht development. This was a time of considerable experimentation in hull form and rig configuration. Mylne's archive, comprising hundreds of designs, documents the breadth of his practice and his influence on British and international yacht design.
