Historical Context

Alfred Mylne's design practice extended well into the twentieth century, with significant output during the immediate post-war years. Design 424 dates to a period when Mylne, though advancing in age, continued to produce designs for yacht construction. The 1952 completion of Erika of Caladan places the design within the era of post-war yacht revival, when demand for new vessels began to recover following the Second World War. Little is presently known of this particular design's commercial success or the circumstances of its commission.
