Historical Context
Alfred Mylne (1881–1963) was a Scottish naval architect of considerable repute, known for his work in cruising yacht and small ship design. His design archive, now maintained as a historical record, encompasses numerous centre board and keelboat designs developed over his professional career. Centre board yachts held particular significance in early-to-mid twentieth century British yacht design, offering practical advantages for coastal cruising and racing. The fact that Design 50 was realised in 2009—many decades after Mylne's death—suggests the design's enduring utility or that it was revived for construction purposes.
