Notes
Designed for Mr Robert Coates, the round bilge aluminium hull was specifically designed to resist the crushing effects of ice in high latitudes. The first yacht was built in South Africa by KBS and sailed to the owner home to Vancouver. She was one of the first yachts to successfully navigate the North West Passage. A true go-anywhere design.

Historical Context
Alfred Mylne's design practice spanned several decades, during which he produced numerous working drawings for vessels ranging from small cruisers to larger ocean-going yachts. The auxiliary cutter remained a consistent and valued configuration throughout the twentieth century, offering owners the advantage of independent propulsion whilst maintaining traditional sailing qualities. The fact that Design 630 was realised as Ocean Search in 1991 indicates continued confidence in Mylne designs well into the final decade of the twentieth century. The comprehensive set of 68 drawings reflects the standard level of detail expected in professional yacht design practice of that era.
