Historical Context
A. Mylne & Co. was founded in 1896 and became one of Scotland's foremost yacht design offices, active until approximately 1980. In the early years of the 20th century, the firm was prolific in designing cruising yachts for the British and international market. Design 134, which produced Aileen II, fell within a productive period when Mylne's office was refining its approach to small-to-medium cruising vessels. These yachts combined seaworthiness with modest dimensions suitable for owner-operated cruising. The four-year gap between design (1904) and build (1907) reflects the variable timescales common in yacht construction, during which designs might be laid aside, revised, or commissioned after initial conception.
