Historical Context
Design 328, created in 1930, falls within A. Mylne & Co.'s established period of yacht design activity in the interwar years. The office, founded in 1896, developed a strong reputation for practical, seaworthy designs across a range of yacht types and sizes. The auxiliary ketch was a natural evolution in Mylne's design repertoire, combining traditional sailing qualities with the flexibility of mechanical propulsion. Bute Slip Dock, situated on the Isle of Bute off the west coast of Scotland, was one of several quality builders with whom Mylne collaborated. The 1930s saw continuing demand for cruising yachts among private owners, and vessels of Arosa's dimensions and capability were well-suited to that market. Her retention of the original Mylne design lines, combined with her wooden construction, places her within the tradition of Scottish yacht building that characterised the Clyde and surrounding waters.
