Historical Context

During the 1920s, A. Mylne & Co. was actively developing designs across both sailing and motor yacht categories. The post-First World War period saw a shift in leisure yacht construction towards powered vessels, and Mylne responded by creating designs suited to the twin screw motor yacht market. Design 283 exemplifies this transition. Rowlands Dockyard represented one of several regional builders outside Scotland with whom the Edinburgh office collaborated, extending Mylne's influence into Wales. The limited documentary record for many inter-war designs and their subsequent histories reflects both the passage of time and the informal nature of private yacht ownership records during this era.
