Historical Context
Design 302 dates from 1924, a period when A. Mylne & Co. was actively producing designs for small cruising and day-sailing yachts. The Gunter type was particularly suited to amateur ownership and modest budgets, combining simplicity with adequate performance. The fact that this design was built at Mazagon Dock in Bombay indicates the international reach of Mylne's practice during the 1920s, when British yacht design was exported and built in colonial shipyards. The interwar period saw sustained demand for compact, economical sailing yachts; however, records of individual vessels from this era, especially those built overseas, are often fragmentary.
