Historical Context
Galma was built during A. Mylne & Co.'s formative period as motor yacht specialists. The early 1900s saw growing demand for reliable, efficient motor vessels to replace or supplement sail. Mylne's willingness to design across both sailing and motor categories positioned the practice at the centre of this transition. Design No. 150 arrived within the first fifteen years of the office's trading, when the portfolio was expanding beyond traditional sailing types. A. Robertson & Sons' involvement as builder reflects the strong working relationships Mylne cultivated with Clyde-based yards, particularly those capable of composite or steel construction suited to motor installations.
