Historical Context

Design 399 was produced during 1939, a pivotal year in A. Mylne & Co.'s output. The late 1930s saw the office engaged with both custom cruising yachts and small commercial motor vessels. The single screw configuration and modest size place Gantock within a class of practical owner-cruising yachts that characterised much of the period's design work. The Second World War would interrupt normal yacht construction and commissions. Without surviving records of her build or service, Gantock remains one of many Mylne designs for which detailed provenance is incomplete.
