Historical Context

Design 124 was created during A. Mylne & Co.'s early years, when the practice (founded 1896) was building its portfolio of cruising and racing designs. The 1905–1906 period saw the office producing vessels across a range of sizes and types. Construction by A. Robertson & Sons placed the design within the established network of Clyde builders who collaborated with Scottish designers. Sandbank, on the Cowal peninsula, was home to several respected boat-building yards. The modest scale of design 124 reflects early twentieth-century demand for practical, owner-sailed cruising yachts rather than large racing machines or prestigious commissions.
