Historical Context
Kittiwake dates from 1898, within the first decade of A. Mylne & Co.'s operation as a design office. Alfred Mylne established his practice in 1896 and rapidly built a reputation for intelligent, practical yacht design suited to Scottish waters and conditions. The late 1890s were years of experimentation and diverse commissions as Mylne developed his design philosophy. His collaborations with established builders such as Gourlay Brothers of Dundee helped establish the office's credibility and access to quality construction. Many designs from this early period, including design 24, remain only partially documented. Kittiwake's survival history and current whereabouts are unrecorded.
