Historical Context

By the late 1960s, A. Mylne & Co. continued to produce designs across a broad spectrum of vessel types and sizes, from larger motor yachts and sailing cruisers to modest day-boats and small cruising auxiliaries. Design 469 falls within this latter category. The practice's design office, established in 1896, had built a reputation for seaworthiness and practicality; these principles are evident in Makori's proportions and modest but adequate motor power. The choice of Bute Slip Dock as builder reflects the continuing vitality of Scottish boat-building in the post-war period, though by this era the industry was contracting. Makori's survival to the present day is noteworthy.
