Historical Context

By 1901, when Design 64 was created, A. Mylne & Co. had been established for five years and was developing a reputation across a broad range of yacht types. The early 1900s saw sustained demand for small cruising yachts among amateur sailors and yacht clubs throughout Britain and Scotland. Myrtle's dimensions place her among the more modest vessels in the office's output—larger than racing dinghies but smaller than the 40–60-foot cruisers for which Mylne became better known. Her survival suggests that vessels of this size, if well built, possessed adequate longevity to endure over a century of service and lay-up.
