Historical Context
A. Mylne & Co. operated as a yacht design practice from 1896 until around 1980, establishing itself as one of Scotland's foremost naval architects. The early 1900s were a period of steady output for the office, producing designs for a diverse clientele across a range of vessel types and sizes. Design 148, drawn in 1908, dates from the firm's first decade and represents the pre-war era before major shifts in leisure, technology, and economics reshaped private yacht ownership. McAllister of Dumbarton was an experienced builder, well positioned to execute Mylne designs with competence and local knowledge of Scottish maritime practice. By 1908, Mylne had established a recognisable house style, evident in proportions and scantlings, though detailed specifications for individual vessels remain sparse in surviving records.
