Historical Context
Design 432 was produced during a period when A. Mylne & Co. continued to serve the Scottish cruising market with practical, sea-kindly designs. The 1960s represented a transitional era in yacht design and construction: traditional wooden building methods were still employed by yards such as Bute Slip Dock, whilst auxiliary engine power had become standard rather than optional. The specification of a Volvo Penta engine—a Swedish manufacturer whose products were increasingly popular in British yachts—underscores how international sourcing of marine components had become routine. Nolana's loss represents one of many vessels from this period that have not survived into the twenty-first century.
