Historical Context
Design 129 was produced by A. Mylne & Co. during the office's early period, when motor yachts were beginning to establish themselves alongside traditional sailing designs. The single screw motor yacht type was a pragmatic response to the growing availability of compact, reliable oil engines in the early 1900s. A Malcolm of Bute was among several respected Clyde-based and island builders who executed Mylne designs during this era. The construction method—pitch pine on oak—was standard practice for Scottish yacht builders and offered good durability and repairability. The 1947 engine installation reflects post-war modernisation, a common practice that extended the working lives of sound wooden hulls into the second half of the twentieth century.
