Historical Context
A. Mylne & Co. was established in 1896 and by 1908 had begun to develop a substantial practice in yacht design. Sibindi was one of numerous designs produced during this period. The Chiswick builder F.G. Maynard was an established Thames-based constructor, and the engagement of Maynard to build a Mylne design suggests the Scottish designer's reach into English yards. The small dimensions and modest specifications of Sibindi are consistent with the cruising and day-sailing craft that formed a significant portion of Mylne's early commissions, before the office became better known for larger ocean-going yachts and motor designs.
