Historical Context

Design 151 was produced during A. Mylne & Co.'s formative period, when the practice was establishing its reputation for competent, seaworthy small craft and cruising yachts. The early 1900s saw increasing demand for motor-powered vessels as petrol engines became more reliable. Mylne's design work of this decade balanced traditional yacht-building principles with emerging mechanisation. A. Robertson & Sons, operating from Sandbank, was integral to Mylne's production network. The Holy Loch yards of the period—including Robertson's—built many of the office's designs, combining Scottish craftsmanship with Mylne's design expertise.
