Historical Context

The International Metre Class emerged as a rating formula designed to encourage yacht racing whilst permitting design experimentation within defined parameters. A. Mylne & Co. contributed substantially to the development of Metre Class yachts during the early twentieth century. By 1917, when Tatjana was designed, the firm had already established a strong reputation in this specialist field. The post-First World War period saw renewed interest in organised yacht racing, and the International Metre Class remained a focal point for competitive sailors throughout the 1920s and 1930s.
