Historical Context

Design 99 falls within the early operational period of A. Mylne & Co., founded in 1896. The office was rapidly establishing itself as a leading Scottish yacht design practice, working across a range of vessel types and sizes for builders throughout the Clyde and beyond. A. Robertson & Sons of Sandbank was among the established yards with which Mylne collaborated during this era. The scarcity of surviving records for many early Mylne designs reflects both the passage of time and the limited archival practices of the period. The Sandbank yard itself later became known for motor yacht construction and repairs, but its records from the early 1900s are largely dispersed.
