Historical Context

Design 360 was produced during a period when A. Mylne & Co. balanced demand for larger ocean-going yachts with commissions for smaller, affordable cruising craft. The mid-1930s saw a shift in yacht design toward motor-sailing vessels and modest motorboats as petrol engines became more reliable and affordable. Bute Slip Dock's construction of Volga represents the type of regional boatbuilding work that sustained Scottish yards in the interwar years, building primarily for private owners rather than commercial or racing programmes. The 1947 engine replacement reflects post-war repairs and upgrades common to vessels that survived World War II with intact hulls.
