Historical Context

Design 342, executed in 1931, falls within A. Mylne & Co.'s prolific period. By the early 1930s, the practice had refined its approach to owner-cruising yachts of modest size. The auxiliary cutter type was gaining favour among designers and owners alike, offering the advantages of a sailing vessel with the security of an engine. Bute Slip Dock was one of several west-coast Scottish builders with whom Mylne worked regularly. The yard had experience in construction of quality small craft, reflecting the enduring tradition of yacht building in the Clyde region and beyond.
