Historical Context

Alfred Mylne's design practice spanned several decades during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, a period of significant development in yacht design and construction. The completion of Sunbeam II in 1904 places Design 104 within Mylne's established career. The survival of eight technical drawings suggests this was a design of sufficient standing to warrant detailed documentation. Many of Mylne's designs from this era were executed by various builders, and tracking individual vessels and their specifications has proven difficult as records have dispersed across collections and institutions.
