Historical Context
Design 479 was created during a period when A. Mylne & Co. was actively designing practical motor cruisers and small commercial vessels. The late 1960s and early 1970s saw growing demand for twin screw motor yachts suitable for British inland and coastal waters. Porter & Haylett, the Wroxham builder, was well established in this market. The use of wood construction, paired with modern diesel engines, reflected a transitional phase in yacht building before fibreglass became predominant. This design exemplifies the office's continuing engagement with working and semi-working vessels alongside its broader design portfolio.
