Historical Context
The Periwinkle design (398) was conceived in 1939, during the period when A. Mylne & Co. was actively developing small cruising designs suited to Scottish conditions. Euphanzel represents a postwar build—constructed in 1946, in the early recovery phase of British yacht building. Bute Slip Dock was a respected builder on the Isle of Bute, part of the regional tradition of small-craft construction in the Clyde and adjacent waters. The 1939 design, realised seven years after conception, reflects practical continuity in Mylne's office: modest designs for amateur cruising and day sailing remained relevant through and beyond the Second World War. The later addition of auxiliary power (1976) was consistent with the modernisation of small yachts across that era.
