Historical Context
Design No. 48, Corona, was created in 1900, early in A. Mylne & Co.'s professional practice. Alfred Mylne established his design office in 1896, and by 1900 he was receiving commissions from builders across the British Isles. The Corona design reflected the practical requirements of the period: a sailing yacht of modest size suitable for owner-cruising, with sufficient accommodation and the new advantage of mechanical propulsion. The Stuart Turner motor installation on Carina exemplifies the gradual adoption of petrol engines as auxiliary power in yachts during the Edwardian era. Builders like Hilditch in Ulster demonstrate the geographic reach of Mylne's practice during these formative years.
