Historical Context

A. Mylne & Co. operated as one of Scotland's principal yacht design offices from 1896 onwards. The period around 1903, when Harmony was designed and built, represents the early years of the practice. The office produced designs across a spectrum of vessel types for both commercial and private clients, working with builders throughout Scotland and northern England. Brightlingsea, on the Essex coast, was an established centre of wooden yacht building, and Stone Brothers maintained a significant reputation in that tradition. Design 85 is one of many cruising yachts produced by Mylne during the Edwardian era.
