Historical Context

Design 85 was produced in 1903, early in A. Mylne & Co.'s working life. The office, established in 1896 by Alfred Mylne, had quickly established a reputation for competent design work across a range of yacht types. The commissioning of L'Amoureuse by an English client and her construction at Wivenhoe demonstrates the geographical reach of Mylne's practice, which while based in Scotland attracted patrons and builders from across Britain. This period saw Scottish yacht design offices compete actively with English and international rivals for commissions.
