Historical Context

A. Mylne & Co. operated from the 1890s through the mid-twentieth century, establishing itself as one of Scotland's leading yacht design practices. During the 1930s, the office produced designs across a wide spectrum—from substantial cruising yachts and racing machines to modest coastal cruisers. Design 370, the Meraquita type, belongs to this latter category, conceived as an economical and seaworthy small sailing vessel. The inter-war period saw continued demand for such designs, even as the economic climate became increasingly challenging. Meridian's survival, under her later name, is testament to the durability of Mylne's basic design principles and the quality of Welsh boatbuilding at Bangor.
